Growing up I was raised in a household that viewed money as one of the most important things in life, the only factor of success. It was put on a pedestal, money was too important. My family was almost always in scarcity even though money was a conversation I heard every single day, it was only said that there wasn’t enough, ever.
When I got older, I was aware that money was important, but I blatantly defied it. I told myself that I would never worry about money the way my parents did and I would never make it important. I told myself that I wanted nothing to do with it and I didn’t need it, especially if it only brought fighting and negativity and scarcity. I moved away, was “homeless” countless times, while choosing to live in my car or camp for free; I had a series of jobs, it didn’t matter so much what it paid just as long as I liked the work. I made ends meet and was content, spending money only on food and adventures.
It was sometime after having my son, when I realized that money is not just something that brings more stuff into my life, but it is something that has the potential to bring so much more. It is security, it is opportunity, it is ENERGY. Whatever energy I have that surrounds money determines whether I have it or not. If I think money is evil and avoid it, it will avoid being in my possession and I will continue to believe in its scarcity.
I choose to live in ABUNDANCE, and that means being wealthy, that means having financial freedom.
Now that I have a family of my own, we do not struggle with money. We have a mindset of living with enough… we have enough and we ARE enough. We live in abundance. Money is welcomed, it does not have a negative connotation like the one I grew up with. I am stoked to be where I am, saying YES to money on an internal level which creates financial freedom in my life for myself and my family. I am creating healthy wealth, and attracting money from a place of love and not of need.
It is this mindset, believing money is energy, that is allowing us to live the lives that we desire, and to actively create our lives based on what we really value: growth, family, connection, health, adventure. We don’t have many “things” but what we do have is experiences and a ton of memories. We have been traveling for over the last two months and have not worried about money ONCE, yet it keeps coming into our lives, sometimes very unexpectedly. I am so grateful for it, we wouldn’t be here without it.
Money is essential, but I am realizing that it’s what I do with it and how I live with it that really matters. What money is giving me right now is absolutely priceless.
I choose to live in abundance. I choose to live financially free. I choose to not be subject to scarcity as I was raised. I choose to have enough because it IS enough and I am enough. And guess what? YOU ARE ENOUGH TOO! Changing our experience of money starts with consciously changing our mindsets from scarcity to abundance.
